EStALI Spring Forum 2025
The Brussels Centre for Competition Policy of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, the Faculty of Law of the Universiteit Antwerpen, and Lexxion are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for the 2025 EStALI Spring Forum. This prestigious event, which will take place in Brussels on 23 May 2025 will bring together leading scholars, practitioners, magistrates, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss and analyse contemporary issues and developments in the field of EU State aid policy. The forum will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and paper presentations.
We invite all State aid aficionados to submit and present a paper on one of the many pressing issues surrounding EU State aid policy, such as, but not limited to:
• The concepts of ‘State aid’ and/or ‘undertaking’
• Services of general economic interest
• State aid in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
• The future of State aid control
• State aid and the search for strategic autonomy
• The enforcement system of EU State aid control
• The challenges and opportunities brought by the European Green Deal
• The green and digital transition
• Temporary crisis frameworks
• The role of economics in EU State aid policy
To be considered for presentation, please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words by 15 December 2024 via email to [bccp@vub.be] with the subject line ‘EStALI Spring Forum - Abstract Submission’. Abstracts should clearly outline the research question, methodology, and key findings. All speakers will be notified of acceptance of their abstract by 23 December 2024. Full papers must be submitted by 7 April 2025. A selection of the best papers will be published in the European State Aid Law Quarterly.
Details regarding conference registration and travel information will be provided upon acceptance of your abstract. Please note that all participants will have to pay a fee (100 euro for PhD students; 200 euro for speakers; 400 for other participants). People experiencing financial hardships that may limit their ability to attend the conference are encouraged to request a waiver for the conference fee. The organising committee will decide on an ad hoc basis who receives a waiver, limited to availability.
