Borja Alcaraz Riaño
Biography
Borja ALCARAZ RIAÑO is pursuing doctoral studies at VUB and the University of Murcia (Spain).
He works as a Policy Assistant at the European Commission since March 2025, and is a part-time lecturer at the Open University of Catalonia and the Université Libre de Bruxelles. Previously, he worked as a case handler at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition (2019-2025); and as a legal consultant at Deloitte, providing support to EU agencies (2016-2019). He trained as a lawyer specializing in EU law at the Brussels offices of Cuatrecasas and PharumLegal, and as a legal advisor in the office of the President of the EFTA Court of Justice (2014-2016). He was also a staff member at the Universities of Murcia, Alicante, and Porto (2005-2013).
Among other qualifications, Borja completed a MA in Law (Complutense University of Madrid), an LL.M. in European Legal Studies (College of Europe, Bruges), a Master's degree in European Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Legal Sciences of Public Administrations (National University of Distance Education), and a postgraduate degree in Competition Law (Carlos III University of Madrid). He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford and the Max Planck Institute for European and International Procedural Law in Luxembourg, and an Erasmus student at the Universities of Liège and Bologna. He is a member of the Spanish Bar (Madrid section).
